Floor Care Tips

The advanced technology in today’s finish coatings for hardwood floors makes caring for your floor easier than ever. Just follow these simple guidelines and your hardwood floor will look great for years.

Sweep, vacuum (with soft bristle brushes) or use an untreated dust mop on your floor regularly to remove dust and dirt. Wipe up any spills or spots immediately using a slightly dampened cloth or paper towel. Sand, dirt, grease and gravel can all cause problems with a hardwood floor producing scratches and stains. Use some sort of protection to keep your hardwood floor looking beautiful.

Use area rugs in high traffic areas to reduce wear, such as in front of cook-tops, kitchen sinks and refrigerator areas. These area rugs should have slip-resistant backings that are approved for wood floor surfaces. Move the area rugs periodically to even out the UV or oxidation induced color changes.

Pet's nails need to be trimmed and filed and paws cleaned regularly to help reduce scratches.

Remove shoes with spiked or damaged heels before walking on hardwood floors.

Protect hardwood floor from daily direct sunlight.

When moving heavy objects, place a sheet of plywood or Masonite™ under the item to distribute the weight.
DO NOT drag or slide heavy items across the hardwood floor. Place protective felts pads beneath furniture legs and feet to reduce scratches.

Maintain relative humidity levels. Maintain a nominal indoor humidity level between 35% to 55% consistently throughout the year to minimize the natural expansion and contraction movements of wood flooring. Indoor temperatures should be maintained between 55 to 80 degrees F.

DO NOT use oil soap, water, paste wax products or other household cleaners to clean your hardwood floor; use only floor care products designed and formulated specifically for applications on hardwood floors.
